Possibly. SmartTrade has minimum technical requirements. In most cases, the existing setup is fine but items to watch out for are:

  • SmartTrade Mobile® requires Windows XP Pro, or Vista Business (or higher) so you will need to upgrade if you are using Windows XP Home, or Vista Basic/Home.

  • To run SmartTrade Mobile® using a wireless data plan, it is preferable that you have an internet connection with a fixed IP address. If your internet connection is via cable, talk to us, as your ISP will not provide a fixed IP address.

  • If you are likely to have more than 5 users using SmartTrade Office at any time (including PDAs syncing to the office), you will need Microsoft SQL. If you have less than this number of concurrent users, you can use Microsoft’s free SQL database called Microsoft SQL Server Express.

  • If you intend to access SmartTrade Office remotely using Terminal Services, say from laptops with wireless cards or PCs from home, then you need to consider the number of terminal services licences. Windows XP Pro only includes 1 terminal services licence, but there are 3rd party applications that overcome this limitation. Talk to us about this issue.

  • Some firewalls block the syncing of data between SmartTrade Mobile® and SmartTrade Office. Usually this problem can be overcome by changing the configuration, but in rare cases it may be necessary to change to another make of firewall.
